About Doug

Doug's Story

As a Denver City Councilman At-Large, Doug has already been doing much of what a Mayor does—working with others to develop real solutions to citywide issues. As a business economist, public servant and father of three, he understands the importance of creating sustainable prosperity for the whole community.

Doug began his career in public service by serving ten years (1994–2003) in the Colorado legislature as a State Representative and a State Senator from districts made up mostly of working families. He sponsored bills to address the day-to-day needs of people in his district by cracking down on predatory lending, supporting child care, creating school-to-career programs for students and improving job training and economic opportunity for all.

Real Solutions for Denver

Doug's top priority is economic prosperity—creating sustainable growth and opportunity for every Denver resident and neighborhood.

Economic Prosperity

Doug's number one priority is to improve Denver's economy and create sustainable prosperity for the whole community. As Mayor, Doug will help businesses create jobs and connect Denver residents to those jobs.

Reshape Public Safety

Public safety starts with crime prevention, includes rehabilitation, provides access to treatment for mental illness and addiction, and focuses public safety resources where they are most appropriate.

For a Greener City

Doug will make Denver the greenest city in the country, increasing waste diversion, reducing greenhouse gases, and enhancing the quality of life for the whole community.

Put Kids First

Our kids are hungry. Our kids are homeless. Our kids aren't learning. Denver has the most rapidly growing rate of childhood poverty in Colorado. As Mayor, Doug is committed to helping young people be successful.

Engaging the Aging

Denver's population of people 55 and older is one of the city's greatest resources. They want to give back, volunteer, mentor, and remain active contributors to our community.

Parks & Recreation

Denver is blessed with a great park system, thanks to early city leaders who had the foresight to acquire the city's remarkable open spaces and create one of the best recreation programs in the country.
